Siblings Tania Attard and Sarah Borg opened the first branch of The White Sheep on Rue d’Argens in Gzira, Malta, on June 1 of 2009. While this is their first venture together, their love of good food, and their vast experience in retail, design and marketing makes them a winning team.
Sarah and Tania first felt that there was a need to offer the Maltese consumer an alternative to the bland and impersonal supermarket chains that had rapidly taken over from the traditional village grocery, a need for a back-to-basics approach which returned food quality to the centre of attention. This, coupled with a dedicated and personalised service, gave birth to The White Sheep.
Such was the need for a store like The White Sheep that, in just over two years, it changed the purchasing trends of quality food and its consumption in Malta. The White Sheep became a hub for good food lovers, a meeting place for discerning gourmands.
Through thorough research and frequent travels, Sarah and Tania continuously source the finest products from the very best, small-scale, artisanal producers. They are now importers and retailers of over 60 of the very best foods and beverages in Europe and beyond.
Theirs is an eclectic mix of organic, free-range and artisanal produce that is free from preservatives and additives, sourced from producers who use artisan skills, age-old recipes and seasonal, fresh ingredients. They understand food, seasons and freshness, and, most importantly, refuse to be dictated to by giant supermarkets. Most are award-winning producers of award winning products. They defy fads and fashions, sticking to what they have done best, for decades.
It is this combination of the finest foods and the inimitable style and perfection-seeking qualities of the duo running the company that makes The White Sheep such a unique spot, frequented by keen foodies.
